‘To create curious, confident, fearless and flexible linguists’

Modern Foreign Languages are a liberation from insularity and so our department will be a place where curiosity about the world meets a deep appreciation of our own place in it. Our department will be a place where students want to be. Our teachers and students are passionate and demanding linguists. We create an environment where students aren’t afraid of mistakes; they love the challenge posed by learning a language. Our teachers and students are always looking to get better. The best version of our department is one where we welcome everyone onto the corridor and into our classrooms with a smile. We believe that all our students are capable of learning a foreign language and so we enable all of our students to speak, read, write and listen. To that end we personalise our support, praise and guidance based on the evidence we have and whatever that success looks like, we celebrate it in all its forms.
