Year 13 Law students spent a truly amazing and memorable half term in America! They started their trip with a walking tour of Washington DC, visiting the US Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Roosevelt, Washington and Lincoln Memorials, plus a plethora of Smithsonian museums and the People’s House.

Students then travelled to Philadelphia, visiting the Eastern State Penitentiary and The Rocky Steps.

Next up was a walking tour of New York City finishing at Grand Central Station, before going to see Michael Jackson the Musical on Broadway. Next stops were the UN Headquarters, The Statue of Liberty, the New York subway, the 9/11 museum, the Ghostbusters fire station, Raising Cane chicken shop and the Top of The Rock!

Year 9 students welcomed Seymour Kelly to Myton this week, to hear about his late mother, Lushka Kelly née Klapholz’s story of survival during the Holocaust. Seymour’s presentation brought Lushka’s experiences to life, through family photos, his personal memories, and also video interviews with his mother. Year 9 students have been studying the Holocaust in their history lessons and hearing this individual and unique story of a Holocaust survivor reminds us not only of the trauma and horror of the event, but also teaches us about resilience, hope and the strength of the human spirit, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting and hands-on visit from Zoolab this week, having the opportunity to handle and learn about the fascinating ‘creepy crawlies’ that inhabit the different layers of the tropical rainforest. From discovering that a cockroach could run the equivalent of 200 mph if it were human-sized, to learning that a dumpy tree frog swallows using its eyes, students were captivated throughout the session. This fantastic experience helped to bridge the gap between their Key Stage 2 Geography curriculum and their Key Stage 3 studies, bringing their classroom learning to life in an engaging and memorable way.

Our Sixth Form students have had a busy week raising money for the charities Sarcoma UK, Young Minds Matter, Oddballs and Kissing it Better. They have held cake sales, sold red roses (within Sixth Form), dyed Mr Griffin’s hair with red hearts, and hosted the ever-popular ‘pie a teacher’ event. Thank you to everyone who has taken part. The English department is very proud of all the students who attended workshops and a live poetry masterclass as part of the nation’s search for the next young poet laureate. Particular congratulations go to the following students who, in January, applied to be considered for the role, submitting a piece of original poetry plus a 200 word personal statement: Siyona N, Max D, Zoe B and Bella I. We’ll keep you updated on their progress!

Year 12 and 13 students visited Geneva last weekend for a jam packed few days of all things physics. Highlights of the trip included visiting CERN (an international nuclear and particle physics research facility, where they were shown around by an ex-Myton student who now works there!), a tour of the Geneva Observatory, a visit to a nuclear fusion experiment, a trip to the Museum of Science History, Botanical Gardens and the Red Cross Museum. Students also experienced a mountain cable car trip, and were treated to some amazing views across the alps. They even managed to squeeze in some fun in the snow!

Students had a great time engaging with some high-level physics!

Year 7 had an amazing time at Wednesday’s Midweek Mashup disco! It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces on the dance floor, enjoying the music and having fun together.

A huge well done to all of Year 7 — you were fantastic!
