Last night we hosted the first of our transition events, giving a warm welcome to our future Year 7 members of the Myton community. It was great to have so many families in attendance to hear about our CARE vision, our SEN and mental health provision, our broad curriculum and our high expectations here at Myton. We are heavily oversubscribed for September and excited to get the next phase of our transition programme underway.

Families were also reminded that Myton will be a smart phone free site from September 2026. It was with great upset that we read about MPs rejecting a proposed social media ban for under-16s despite calls to improve children’s safety online by restricting their access. We know that parents cannot take on the tech giants by themselves and our government seems more concerned about one-upmanship than what is best for our young people. With the disruption and worry from ‘social influencers’ this week we know social media is causing significant mental health harm to many of our young people. The evidence keeps on coming in!

Dear Parents and Carers

Our annual Careers and Apprenticeships Fair took place this week. This is always a fantastic and well attended event, and this year was no exception – in fact it was our largest fair to date, with over 45 exhibitors from universities, colleges and employers. It was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 10 to 13 students and their families to gain a greater understanding of the opportunities that may be available to them when they leave Myton School, including career choices, apprenticeships and higher education pathways.

Thank you to our Careers Advisor, Mrs Wedgbrow, for organising this event, the students and their families who attended, and finally to the many exhibitors who made this such a successful and informative evening.

Dear Parents and Carers

The Weekly News is my opportunity to celebrate how our wonderful students and staff embody our CARE values: Community Minded, Aspirational, Respectful and Engaged, The students of Myton make being Head Teacher my dream job – they are funny, kind, and full of potential as they navigate a world that can sometimes feel daunting.

This week, I would like to highlight the fantastic work led by Miss Barritt, our Year 11 Pastoral Leader, who is supporting students in spreading Easter joy to local residents. Our students will be raising money to buy Easter gifts for members of our community, including those in care homes and to foodbanks, to bring warmth, happiness, and a sense of connection to their day. Myton is, at its heart, a community school, and we are incredibly proud of the care our young people show to others.

More and more schools are joining forces to help families give their children a childhood free from the pressures of early smartphone use. As a parent of a Year 9 and Year 11 student myself, I am committed to preserving the essence of childhood for all young people. Dear Parents and Carers

We are excited this week to launch the Myton Parents Network, a new initiative aimed at bridging the gap between students, parents, and Myton School staff team. Their mission is simple: work together to support our students in practical, meaningful ways.

One of their first projects is to launch the second hand uniform shop, and to make it a success, they need your help.

They are collecting good condition, pre-loved school uniform to build their stock and are looking for:

• Blazers & ties
• School trousers & skirts
• PE kit
• Nearly new shoes

Since sharing the news from the Chair of Governors regarding Mr Perry’s resignation as Head of Myton School, we have received many messages thanking him for his work leading the school over the last decade and wishing him the best. These messages are all gratefully received, reflect our fantastic school community, and will be passed on.

Many have reflected on how Mr Perry guided the school through a number of challenging periods, including Covid, RAAC and the cyber attack, managing to prioritise the education and welfare of our students but always with his characteristic good humour. I know many of you will miss his anecdotes in the Weekly News message each week.

We will continue to guide the school with the same care, commitment and priorities, including our Mobile Phone Policy and the school rebuild project. Our Weekly News messages will continue to reflect the warmth and joy that any given week at Myton may bring.

We all thank Mr Perry for his outstanding dedication as Head Teacher at Myton and wish him the very best for the future.

Dear Parents and Carers

Myton is a member of Stowe Valley Multi Academy Trust which is a local, values-led Trust. Being in the Trust enables staff to share good practice and learn from one another, and be part of a wider family of schools in the Warwick and Leamington area. This week we have been able to celebrate the ‘winners’ of a MAT-wide Celebration of Creativity across all the schools. The art challenge was to create a postcard based upon the Stowe Valley values of Kindness, Confidence and Resilience. Across the schools there were over 2000 entries and the chosen entries can be found in the link here. Please do take a look at the wonderful work of the Myton students as well as the other school in the Trust. The quality and talent on show is special. The ‘winning’ designs will feature in a ‘Stowe Valley Values’ calendar available to purchase soon, and all entered postcards will be on display at a Stowe Valley art exhibition at Compton Verney from the 24 to 26 April.

Dear Parents and Carers

This week we’ve been speaking with many students about their future pathways. Sixth Form applications continue to rise, and Year 11s have been discussing their next steps and attending academic intervention with real commitment. Year 12 and 13 students have been working hard on their progress exams, creating a strong sense of aspiration across the school.

We have also been reviewing ongoing projects. Smartphone and screen use has once again been in the national news, and we have been considering our draft policy. The school rebuild project has moved into its initial design phase, and we look forward to sharing more soon.

Dear Parents and Carers

Happy New Year to you all and we hope you have had an enjoyable and restful break. We have started the Spring term as we mean to go on – with enthusiasm and purpose. This term is always a busy one, with Year 12 and 13 going straight into progress exams, and Year 11 students working to consolidate or improve on their mock results to achieve their best outcomes when the real exams come around. It’s also a short term, with only 10 more weeks of school before Easter so it’s important for our students to start off with the right attitude – ready to engage and work hard. Although Mr Perry remains absent from school, as Deputy Headteachers we continue to lead and manage the school effectively and it is very much business as usual.

To give all of our students in Years 7 to 11 a fresh start, we have archived all behaviour points from last term so they start with 0 to align with our recognition and reward targets. This gives each student an equal opportunity to reach for their potential at the start of this calendar year. Our students should be aiming for upwards of 30 merits a week – our Engaged merits will remain at +4 this half term as this is our Value focus for Spring.
