Sustainability at Myton

Sustainability Vision at Myton

At Myton school we are committed to reducing our negative impact on the Earth and seek to work more sustainably. We have calculated our baseline carbon count, which takes into account various aspects of school life that contribute to pollution, energy waste and climate change. The count considers travel to school and trips, the school menu, energy use, water use, waste produced, uniform bought, procurement and current recycling methods. From this point we will work to reduce our inputs and waste outputs continually. The aim to reduce inputs and waste will lower running costs and save the school spending money unnecessarily.

Myton’s main aim is of course quality education and sustainability will be part of it. In line with the plans set out by the DfE, Myton will release sustainability out of the science and geography confines and use the lens of sustainability across all subjects. Climate change will be a huge factor in our young people’s lives, more so than AI or any culture war. There will not be an industry, region or household in the future not affected by climate change so we will prepare our students to understand the problems and realise the solutions this creates.

Part of the solution to climate change is in increasing biodiversity. Myton school is engaging with Education Nature Park. This organisation aims to map out the current state of biodiversity across all school estates and guide students at schools in helping to increase the abundance of life on site.

As the school will be rebuilt over the coming years, after suffering from RAAC fallout, sustainable concepts will be used to help inform the new build design.
