Pupils from Myton School took part in the annual Holocaust Memorial Day Service this week at the War Memorial in Warwick. Caterina from Year 13 read a personal account by Anna Akhmatova, one of Russia’s greatest 20th century poets, about the repression under the dictatorship of Stalin’s Russia. Akhmatova describes her son’s arrest and the agony of the years she spent waiting for his return, not even knowing if he was still alive.
Oscar from Year 9 wrote and read his own very moving piece about his experiences reflecting on his own family history, which included a powerful message of the importance of remembering those involved. “They were all real people, with hopes, and lives and people who I might have known had the Holocaust not happened.” Mrs Woodward was very proud of the way the students read with such confidence and they are real credit to school.
