SMARTPHONE FREE CHILDHOOD
Dear Parents and Carers
We are committed to ensuring Myton students can enjoy a childhood free from the risks of smartphone use. Following on from the information evenings held earlier this term, we held the first of our smartphone parent consultation meetings this week. We shared the draft policy and discussed a wide range of questions about how to ensure this policy is implemented with full consideration of the community voice. Feedback from the session was that it was very informative and there is a sense of excitement about our smartphone free policy taking shape within the school community.
Alongside the consultation meeting, members of our Senior Leadership Team met with the Managing Director of Stagecoach to discuss how we can work together to prepare for a smartphone free school, including arrangements for travelling to and from school on the bus. We have identified an action plan to navigate the logistics of being able to travel to and from school safely, without the need for an internet enabled smartphone.
We have a lot more work to do, but this is a very encouraging and positive start.
One of the parents in the consultation group has asked that we share the below link to the parent-led smartphone free childhood at Myton WhatsApp group, which is for parents (of children both with and without smartphones) who may want support, advise, or simply a community to connect with.
Kind regards
Mrs Curtis and Mr Phipps
