Psychology

Psychology is a linear qualification and students sit 3 x two hour papers at the end of Year 13. We follow the AQA specification and have sequenced the curriculum to ensure that students are building on their knowledge and skills throughout the course. As a department we aim to provide students with an outstanding learning experience where they look forward to their lessons and feel inspired. We aim to create a learning environment based on mutual respect and where the students feel supported. We strive to provide an inclusive experience, removing barriers to learning and where students feel safe and able to discuss ideas in a non-judgemental way. We aim to open students’ eyes to the bigger picture and provide them with experiences which show the real-world application of what they are learning in the classroom. As well as providing students with the knowledge and expertise to make excellent academic progress we support students to become self-assured learners and to develop a sense of resilience when faced with a problem and encourage them not to accept facts at face value but to develop the skills to analyse and evaluate. As a department we aim to collaborate with others to share best practice and are keen to continually reflect on our own practice.
