The Polish Centre in Leamington Spa is looking for much-needed food donations for the Ukrainian Aid effort.
A huge amount of aid was donated by the community in the first few weeks of the Russian invasion and, in just that short period of time, the Centre was able to send 56,000kg of donations to Ukraine, Poland and refugee camps in Moldova and Romania.
The success encouraged volunteers to seek alternative warehousing and now the Polish Centre is one of the largest donation drop off bases in the UK, an achievement local MP Matt Weston brought to Parliament’s attention last week.
More than ten million people have fled their homes in Ukraine and of this figure, four million have left for neighbouring countries and an estimated 6.5 million are thought to be displaced inside the war-torn country itself.
The Polish Centre is to keep the momentum going so has issued another appeal for the most needed items – which is food – from the following list:
- Pasta, rice, couscous, barley & lentils
- Flour and cereals
- Oil, soups (canned or instant)
- Canned vegetables, meat and fish.
- Dried fruit, peanuts and energy bars.
- Tea, coffee and sugar.
Donations can be dropped off at the new warehouse on Harbury Lane, CV33 9SA between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
As a school we are really proud to have raised over £3,000, with Parent, Carer, student and staff support, for the DEC appeal for Ukraine last month.
