Last month all of our sixth form mathematicians took part in the annual Senior Maths Challenge, run nationally by the UK Mathematics Trust. The challenge consists of 25 fiendishly difficult multiple-choice questions, an example of which is below.
We are extremely pleased to announce that over half of our students were awarded either a bronze, silver or gold award, including three students who came in the top 10% nationally and so qualify for the next round.
Particular congratulations to:
Miya S – best in school, qualifier
Jess K – qualifier
Nikit S – best in Year 12, qualifier
Example question:
The positive integer 𝑘 is a solution of the equation (𝑘 ÷ 12) ÷ (15 ÷ 𝑘) = 20.
What is the sum of the digits of 𝑘?
A 15 B 12 C 9 D 6 E 3
The answer is D. K = 60
