Monday night saw the return of our annual student Rock Night, the first in two years. Students from Years 8 to 12 took to the stage, many of them performing in front of an audience for the first time. According to Head of Music, Mrs Harrisson, all the performances were of a consistently high standard with a wide range of rock and pop styles presented, including solo piano, vocals and rock bands. The whole event was managed very professionally by the Year 12 team, supported by Mr Brice, and the performers (and audience) benefitted from the recent investment in sound equipment for the Upper School Hall.
Rock Night 2020 was the last music performance before lockdown so it was fantastic to bring it back into the school calendar in 2022 and to see how the students have developed as musicians in the intervening period. It was particularly pleasing to see performances from some of our younger children who have recently joined Band Club, as well as some epic guitar and drum solos from our post-16 students.
“What a fabulous evening we had. The students were amazing; so talented and confident in their performances. They had all clearly put in hours of practice to be so skilled” said Deputy Head, Mr Jones.
“My thanks to the students who provided such an enjoyable and memorable evening, and to the music department for inspiring and supporting them, enabling them to have the opportunity to perform to a live audience. Well done everyone!”
Congratulations to all the performers involved, the music department and music tech team. Looking forward to the next event!
