Dear Parents and Carers
Thanks go to Mr Mawle, Miss Cole, the PE Department, and all staff involved in Sports Day this week. All of Year 7, together with most of Years 8, 9 and 10, head down to the athletic ground at Edmondscote for this and look amazing as they do so. I really like our red and black PE kit and, as hundreds of students all dressed in this walk down Myton Road, it really catches the eye. The PE Department obviously arranged the good weather for Wednesday and the kids really enjoyed their day, taking part in their events and spending the morning at the track in the sun. On this occasion I was left back at base but did manage to get to the track for half an hour to see the start of the relay races. The first thing that struck me was the queue to the ice cream van and the slushy van which seemed to have thousands of kids in it, really well ordered and behaved though. We received an email from the vendors of the slushy van shortly after the event (probably from a posh villa abroad somewhere given the amount they must have traded that day), which said…..
Our sincere thanks for having us at your Sports Day today. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the few hours that we spent in the company of your students.
Those students are a credit to your school, they were faultlessly polite and confident without being cocky or overbearing. Each and every one of them looked us in the eye when they placed their orders and they all exhibited the manners that often seem to be lacking in their peers.
We were delighted to be a part of your very successful day, thank you.
We get a lot of emails like this which we don’t always share but are lovely to receive. In this case, right in the middle of the queue were Mrs Curtis and Mr Phipps, Myton’s Deputy Headteachers who stepped up to organise the kids, get a lovely suntan and, from what I understand, get a free ice cream at the end. As you know, Mrs Curtis started with us in September following the retirement of Dr Menezes at the end of last year, and I would like to introduce you all to Mr Phipps who started with us in June as Deputy Head, following the resignation of Mr Jones. Both Deputies have joined us full of ideas, full of energy and now full of ice cream and are raring to go. They will take the lead in implementing our new improvement plan and drive us on to even bigger and better things.
Best wishes
Andy Perry
