Dear Parents and Carers
The great pleasure of my job is walking around the school and dropping into classes to talk to students about their learning – my favourite being Food Technology around the time they are learning to cook Thai curry or anything cake related!
In Geography, students have been showing me the structure of tectonic plates over the Earth and how they shape the landscape. In D&T, one student demonstrated how he had curved a long, flat plank of wood to create a structure the shape of a monkey nut with the ends joining together. In Maths, some Year 10 students demonstrated how they used Pythagoras to measure the distance between the top corner of their classroom where the wall met the ceiling and the diagonally opposite bottom corner underneath the radiator. Using Pythagoras in 3 dimensions.
I did also really enjoy the discussion I had with two Year 8s about dystopian societies. They started to argue the extent to which Myton School could be considered a dystopian society. It got me thinking of some new rules…
I drop into any class and I find engaged students, enjoying their learning and very keen to show off what they know and what they think, which at any time of the day is the highlight of working at Myton.
With best wishes
