Next Tuesday, February 7th, will be one year since the death of Kieran Long. His friends, now in Year 11, marked the occasion with a memorial concert last week which was attended by most of his year group and many members of staff. Also there were Kieran’s Mum and Dad and members of his wider family. All of us here are very proud of our students for the concert. They had, with the help of Mr Russell, Miss Whitworth and Mr Stone, organised the event, performed the music and written a song which they also performed at the event. Mr Russell gave an entertaining account of life as a cover supervisor at Myton School and his fond memories of Kieran and their shared taste in music. He then performed a Tom Waits track that Kieran was particularly fond of.
Kieran’s Mum, Dad and family remained after the event to talk with the students and staff and, just as in their previous visits, enjoy hearing the memories our students have of their son. The event was at times emotional but always uplifting and to all our students involved – Callum Hansen, Beant Dhillon, Anaik Dhut, Leila O’Hara, Abbie Evason, James Fisk and Henna Kalsi – I would like to pass on our thanks and best wishes for remembering their friend in such a positive way. The track they have written and performed is available on sale with proceeds going to the Edward’s Trust.
