What have FOMS ever done for us?
Well, the short answer is loads!
The Friends of Myton School (FOMS) are a group of parent volunteers who tirelessly raise money for the benefit of all students. So if your child has performed in the hall using a microphone, used some of the technology in English, used the printing machine in textiles, accessed counselling, watched the projector in the hall or received an award at celebrations evening; then the chances are they have directly benefited from the work of FOMS.
The brilliant part of the arrangement is that there are strict rules on spending – it mustn’t be on anything which should be purchased from the usual school budget. All FOMS spending must be ‘over and above’ and directly for the benefit of students. In my relatively short time at Myton School, I have seen well over £15,000 raised and spent by the Friends of Myton School; a fantastic achievement. The chances are you will have met them. At any school event, FOMS volunteers organise the refreshments, arriving early to set up and staying late to pack away again. They also organise events such as the Year 7 and 8 disco on July 12th (tickets still available).
I am humbled by the time and effort put into supporting the school by our FOMS volunteers and would like to thank them all on behalf of our staff, students and parents.
However, the question really isn’t ‘What have FOMS ever done for us?’ It is more ‘What would FOMS like to do for us?’ The answer is so much more than they do already. To fulfil their ambitious plans, FOMS are looking for more participants. As they are our PTA, you are already a member as a parent of a child at Myton School.
The key ways to get involved are:
- Be a FOMS volunteer. More parents are needed to plan and volunteer at fund raising activities. Mums and dads are welcome (it is all mums at the moment, so step up dads!).
- Join the committee.
- Attend the functions and encourage your child to get involved in FOMS events.
