Dear Parents and Carers
As we reach the end of the week, we are all looking ahead with great excitement to Horizons Week, which begins next week. This is a new addition to our school calendar, and it promises to be an inspiring and enriching experience for all our students.
Horizons Week is designed to broaden our students’ horizons, giving them opportunities to develop important character virtues and employability skills, helping to prepare them for the world beyond school. It is a chance for our young people to think differently, challenge themselves, and engage in learning that builds confidence, resilience, creativity, and collaboration.
During the week, students will continue to attend their regular timetabled lessons. However, staff have carefully planned learning around engaging themes that encourage deeper thinking and creativity across all subjects. Each year group will explore a different focus:
- Year 7 – Our Planet and Beyond
- Year 8 – Global Cultures
- Year 9 – Aim Higher
These themes will allow students to make meaningful connections across their learning while developing a broader understanding of the world around them.
In addition to their lessons, students will have the opportunity to take part in a number of exciting educational visits, including trips to Drayton Manor, West Midlands Safari Park, Osmington Bay, and The Motor Museum. There will be an on site languages theatre performance taking place, MytonBury fete and performers attending the Stowe Valley Arts festival.
These experiences play a key role in bringing learning to life, building independence, and creating lasting memories.
We have already seen a fantastic start to this work through our recent drop-down days. Year 7 students took part in an Enterprise Day, where they designed their own theme park ride. This was a brilliant opportunity to develop skills in teamwork, creativity, and financial management.
Year 8 students also participated in a Citizenship Day, focused on financial awareness and responsibility. We were delighted to welcome a speaker from the Bank of England, who provided valuable insight into finance and the wider economy, helping students to make real-world connections.
Horizons Week is a celebration of everything we value as a school – curiosity, ambition, creativity and preparation for the future. We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful programme our staff have created and know that students will gain a great deal from the experience.
We look forward to sharing highlights from the week and hearing all about the students’ achievements and experiences.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead.
Kind Regards
Mrs Curtis
