In 2024 former Myton student, Aaliyah Godfrey lost her battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma, she was 20 years old. Aaliyah was a very talented artist and was due to go to University in Leeds, having completed her A levels at Myton and studying an art foundation degree in Leamington, when she discovered a lump in her leg and was eventually diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a very aggressive cancer which commonly affects teenagers and young adults.
Aaliyah was kind, thoughtful, full of, and lived for, life. Aaliyah loved Disney and was very proud of her heritage and is deeply missed by family and friends.
To honour her memory, Myton School has made Sarcoma UK its charity of the year for 2025/26. Throughout the year, led by Sixth Form Student Leadership, the school will be holding a variety of fundraising events to help fund the much-needed research into bone and soft tissue cancers and to spread awareness of this terrible disease.
To tie all the activities together, there will also be a year-long fundraising event; Mr Griffin, Sixth Form Administrator, will have his head shaved bald on the 29 September. He won’t then cut it again until July 2026 and, if enough money has been raised, will sport whatever style and colour the Sixth Formers choose to the Year 13 Leavers Ball in July 2026 – current favourite style is an electric blue mohican! Also, at every charity event between now and July, Sixth Formers can colour and style Mr Griffin’s hair in appropriate colours. Hitting monetary targets will unlock more styles and colours to be unleashed on Mr Griffin. Our target is £1500 but we hope that, with help, we can raise much more. You can donate via Parent Pay from Friday 26 September.
The first charity event is a cake sale being held on Wednesday at lunchtime on the school field (everything £1!).
