Myton Sixth Form
At Myton Sixth Form we aim to create a purposeful, friendly and adult environment in which you are encouraged to develop a sense of independence and take responsibility for your study. The two years you spend in the Sixth Form are important in shaping your future career and education. We hope you will also remember that time as an exciting and enjoyable experience.
Myton gives you the chance to continue developing the study skills, personal qualities and time management that are needed later in life. We provide opportunities for extra curricular and community activities and give you every encouragement to be leaders in the school.
Above all, the Sixth Form is about helping you realise your potential whatever it is. We want you to be successful and happy, whether this is gaining a place at the university of your choice, getting on in your chosen career, or developing your wider potential.

We offer students excellent teaching from a team of highly qualified teachers and tutors with a track record of success. Successive Ofsted inspections have noted the ‘outstanding’ teaching in the Sixth Form as a significant strength of our school.
Historically, our examination results have been consistently outstanding, with most students going on to their first choice of university, including regular entrants to Oxford, Cambridge and medical school. In addition, each year, students gain entry into the professions and high quality apprenticeships in national companies.
Facilities for students are many and varied, including a large independent learning room where students can study in silence and a group learning room which incorporates our hugely popular ‘Learning L@tte’ café, offering opportunities for socialising and group learning. Our outstanding Learning Resource Centre is also available to Sixth Formers throughout the school day.
Enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities
Our Sixth Form offers extensive opportunities for personal development. Many students volunteer to help younger students, become Subject Ambassadors to help promote and work with staff in their preferred subject area, act as tutor group representatives in our Sixth Form Senate, take part in charity and fund-raising events, participate in drama, music and sporting events within school and participate in volunteering opportunities abroad.
We provide sessions for all students on Life Skills and the Extended Project Qualification. The whole Sixth Form also spends Wednesday afternoon on sporting activities with some competing in inter-school matches and others participating in activities such as swimming, badminton, aerobics and basketball.
Career and University planning
Much time is spent on helping students plan for their futures. Workshops and presentations often led by external speakers form a big part of this. We hold an annual Careers Day for Year 12 in the Spring Term as well as a year group visit to a UCAS Convention where over a hundred universities are represented. We also hold a Parents’ Information Evening towards the end of Year 12 to inform parents about the university application process and student funding. As well as tutors and the Sixth Form Team, students can seek advice from Sarah Gerrard our dedicated and independent careers adviser, who will provide support for UCAS, apprenticeship applications or other Post 18 routes.
Support for students
We provide a strong pastoral system where students are supported by a dedicated team of tutors who remain with them for the two years of the Sixth Form. They encourage, guide and help them through what can be a difficult time for many students with the level of work required, concerns about their future, changing relationships etc. The Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Head of Sixth Form also provide much support to students on an individual basis and are always available to students or parents for advice. There is also a dedicated school counsellor available to sixth form students as needed.
