On Thursday 24 November some of our keenest readers in Year 9 went to the Warwickshire Book Awards at the Bridge House Theatre, Warwick School.
Over the past few months the students from Myton and other schools in the county have been reading, discussing and reviewing all of the shortlisted books:
- One by Sarah Crossan
- Maladapted by Richard Kurti
- Anna and the Swallow Man by Gavriel Savit
- Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt
Jessica Barnard, Grace Bickley, Aimee Cox, Amelia Cox, Amy Edgar, Emma Jakeman, Grace Jordan, Ria Sahota and Pippa Smart had the chance to meet and question author Richard Kurti and the overall winner of the student vote was Gary D. Schmidt for his novel Orbiting Jupiter.
We’re very proud of our students who collectively wrote this haiku which they entered into a competition about One by Sarah Crossan. We’re delighted to announce that they won!
ONE
Love, joy, sister’s bond,
Can’t live without the other,
They are two in one.
Gawks and stares and gasps,
A joined wish to be normal,
Unbreakable bond.
Shared in the spotlight,
A choice that could change their lives,
Love, joy, sister’s bond.
