We are hugely proud of our Year 8 student Tia Norton, who represented Team GB at the World Junior Padel Tennis Championships in Mexico City last week.
Team GB sent a squad to the World Championships held in Mexico City on 16-21 November. Myton student, Tia Norton represented Team GB at under 14 level at the age of 12, being the youngest member of the team.
Tia progressed through the competition with her British National partner, reaching the quarter finals in the open event. Overall the girls team finished in 6th place, the boys team finished with a well-deserved podium 3rd place, taking bronze medal.
Tia lead the team, carrying the Union Jack at the opening ceremony. A very successful GB result for a sport mostly played in Hispanic countries, but starting to have more of an influence in the UK.
Padel tennis is becoming one of Europe’s fastest growing sports. Invented in 1969 in Mexico, similar to tennis it is played in doubles on a court one-third the size of a standard tennis court with players able to play balls off the walls and using smaller unstringed racquets.
