Year 11 Biology students took advantage of a clear and sunny morning this week to complete an ecological survey of St Nicholas Park as part of their GCSE required practical activities.
Accompanied by Mr Garner and Mrs Sarjeant, students used their newly acquired sampling skills to calculate the percentage cover of the perennial weed, creeping buttercup. The group discovered that the plant thrives in the more waterlogged sections of the park and calculated that around 15% of the grassland near the fishing pond contained the species.
Future ecologists in the making!
