As you probably know, Leamington was in the news this week when Jeremy Corbyn visited the town as part of Labour’s election campaign. Our Year 12 politics students went along to hear what he had to say and were very excited about this opportunity to meet a leading national politician ‘face to face’!
Also at the event was Leila O’Hara in Year 11 who is about to sit her GCSEs and is planning to study A levels at Myton next year:
“Anyone who knows me will be aware I’m bit of a lefty, so I was delighted to be able to join 200 supporters at Leamington Town Hall on Monday to welcome Jeremy Corbyn to Warwickshire.
After a good humoured and rousing welcome, Mr Corbyn went on to deliver a speech which was compassionate, far reaching and full of conviction.
He said that his main priority is to tackle the current desperate housing crisis and he has pledged to build a million new homes. He also assured the crowd of his absolute commitment to preserving and fully funding the NHS.
Later, quite by accident, I met him as he strolled in Jephson Gardens! I chatted to him about life in Leamington and my forthcoming exams. He wished me an enormous amount of luck and I wished him the same!”
