During the summer holidays, two Myton students and their mum visited a school in the Mumbai Dharavi Slums and donated pens, pencils, books and 52 plastic chairs.
Harvinder Bilkhu, who works in our LINC (Learning, Intervention & Nurture Centre), and her sons Arjun in Year 13 and Rohan in Year 9 first visited the Dharavi Slum last summer and were determined to do something to help relieve the poverty they saw there. Harvinder organised a collection amongst Myton staff, which paid for the chairs, and the family returned this summer to arrange for them to be delivered to the school. They then spent three weeks at the school getting to know the children and staff and helping with lessons.
Rohan made this short film about their experience: The Dharavi Slums of Mumbai
