Leila O’Hara in Year 12 spent the weekend of 28-29 April volunteering in Calais with the refugee crisis charity, Care4Calais alongside teachers and students from Warwickshire. The teacher and student delegation from Warwickshire took over £1,500 and many items on the charity’s ‘much needed’ list.
She spent time working in the Care4Calais warehouse, sorting items then travelled to the ‘Jungle Camp’ to distribute desperately needed things to the refugees living in the open in extraordinarily harsh conditions.
She said: “Seeing the conditions and the lives these people are leading was incredibly eye opening and the whole experience was life changing for me. I can’t wait to return for two weeks in the summer to carry on the important work this charity is doing.”
If any students would like to join her or find out more, Leila would be more than happy to have a chat.
