Last weekend Lauren Ashbourne in Year 12 had the opportunity to meet German Olympic champion javelin thrower, Thomas Röhler at Loughborough University.
Lauren has enjoyed a lot of success herself at the javelin and discus, winning second place at last summer’s Warwickshire Athletics Championships and going on to represent the county at the Inter Counties Competition.
Lauren said: “I was offered the opportunity to meet Thomas Röhler by Loughborough University which is home to some of the best national coaches for throwers. The day made me realise how every athlete has a low point but in the end all the effort you put in results in great success. Thomas went through the technical aspects of javelin and I had the chance to see him throw which was amazing to watch. In the future I aspire to be as successful as Thomas Röhler and will always keep javelin throwing as a hobby.”
