Tin whistle player, Sam Ashby in Year 7 has won first place in the under 12 category of the regional heat of the ‘All Britain’ Irish music competition. Sam will now compete in the national competition, and if successful, will go on to the final ‘All Ireland’ competition.
Sam also competed in group competitions and his under 12 group were placed first and his trio group in the same age category came second.
Sam was delighted to be awarded first place this year, and his performance was praised as outstanding for his age group!
Sam’s mum Amy Ashby said, “Sam has played in the national and Ireland competitions for the past two years as part of the group but this is the first time he has gone through as a solo musician, so he is particularly proud!”
We would like to join with Sam’s family and friends in congratulating Sam and wishing him the best of luck in the next stage of the competition in June.
