Myton is very fortunate to have an exchange programme with Brühl’s Kunst-und Musikschule, which this year celebrates its 30th year. A group of German music students will be visiting Myton from the 7 to 11 October 2023 and we urgently need host families from the Myton School community to offer them hospitality. Last year, 28 Myton students visited Brühl and spent time with German families and we need at least 10 more families to extend the same welcome to our German partners.
Any family with children in Years 7 to 12 at Myton School can volunteer to host a student(s) and we will aim to match students by gender and age.
You would need to be able to collect your German student from Myton School on Saturday 7 October at around 6pm and host them (accommodation and meals) until they leave in the morning of the 11 October.
German students will be attending Myton School on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 October and taking part in a range of activities on and off site including a concert and celebration party, together with the Myton School host students.
You do not need to be studying German or Music to host, and do not need a spare room or bed; the German students are quite happy to share a room and sleep on a floor mattress or sofa and are just keen to experience life in an English family and practice their language skills.
Students who host this year will have the opportunity to visit Germany on our next visit (usually the following year). Many students who have hosted in the past remain in touch with their German partners and have a useful contact for future travel and study.
In order to fulfil our safeguarding responsibility, one parent of the host family would need to agree to a free of charge DBS check, which involves completing a short online form and bringing ID documents into school in September.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to host, please contact Head of Music Wendy Harrisson at [email protected] by the end of term.
