Work is well underway on the new building block on site and as part of Myton School’s commitment to work towards a carbon neutral school, we have teamed up with community benefit society Energise Leamington to install a solar array of around 200 solar panels on the new building’s roof. This is expected to generate around 80MWh of renewable energy to power the building (the equivalent of around 28 homes)!
The solar panels will benefit the school in many ways, including a significant reduction in its carbon footprint, electricity savings and mitigation against volatile electricity prices. It will use the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) Government scheme to secure payment for exporting renewable electricity to the grid.
Energise Leamington and the Science department also hope to use the project as a way of engaging pupils in solar energy, sustainability and climate science.
