Dear Parents and Carers
Happy bank holiday weekend to you all.
I have been interested to read recent BBC reports backing up the decision we made some time ago to keep mobile phones out of school completely. The government has now announced plans to make phone bans the law in schools across England, recognising that phones distract from learning and can have a real impact on behaviour and wellbeing. At the same time, trials of social media bans and digital curfews for teenagers are showing clear benefits: young people are sleeping better, concentrating more, feeling calmer and spending more time with family. By removing phones from the school day – including journeys to and from school – we expect a calmer, more focused environment where pupils can learn, connect with each other properly and simply be children. It is reassuring to see national evidence now catching up with what we have long known is right for our pupils and families. Please discuss this with your children as we are launching our smartphone ban in September 2026. More information about our policy and procedures will follow.
My house is full of revision flash cards, teenage tunnel vision and past papers, but we are determined to dust our walking shoes off (and waterproofs by the look of the forecast!) to get out and connect with nature this bank holiday. I hope you get to take some time to rest, recharge and spend time together this weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Curtis
