Dear Parents and Carers
This week, I would like to draw your attention to our updated Mobile Phone and Portable Devices Policy, which has now been shared with all families and will come into effect from September 2026. The policy has been introduced to strengthen safeguarding and support student focus and wellbeing, recognising the growing challenges associated with smartphones, including distraction from learning and risks linked to online behaviour. From September, students in Years 7–11 will not be permitted to have internet-enabled devices in school or while travelling to and from school. Instead, they may only bring a non-internet enabled phone, which must remain switched off and in their bag throughout the day. Sixth Form students will continue to have access to their devices but within clearly defined boundaries.
To support parents and carers with these changes, we will also be holding a virtual information session on Thursday 18 June at 5pm (details on how to join the session will follow shortly) to explain the policy in more detail, answer questions, and provide guidance on suitable devices. This change is about creating a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment for all, while still educating students about the responsible use of technology. We are grateful to parents and carers for their continued support in helping us implement this important change successfully.
Kind Regards
Mrs Curtis
