Dear Parents and Carers
This week has seen a busy programme of extra-curricular activities in school. On Thursday, our Year 11 were given a break from their mock exams in order to benefit from some career enrichment. They all attended mock interviews with local employers and were able to practise their interview skills and receive valuable feedback on their strengths and areas for improvement. They attended workshops with representatives from a range of different sectors. A special mention goes to former Myton student, Jack Dudley, now a fully qualified paramedic working in Northamptonshire who is always willing to come back into school to enthuse fellow students about his chosen career.
Our Year 9 students were able to benefit from a session run by an external agency, Loudmouth Education & Training who are safeguarding specialists. They ran an awareness and prevention programme on child sexual exploitation, using theatre in order to engage the students in discussions about grooming, online safety and consent.
We also hosted two Primary and Secondary Schools Sportshall Athletics Competitions. Because we have such great sports facilities in the John Atkinson Sports Centre, our PE Department are able to host events for other schools and, as part of this role, we offer students the opportunity to volunteer as sports leaders. I’m always impressed by the number of students who put themselves forward for this type of opportunity. It’s a sign of ambition and a willingness to give up their time to support others; it also helps develop vital skills of organisation and leadership. Some of the students who become sports leaders are interested in a career in sport, others have a love of a particular sport that they want to share, and other students simply like the chance to help others.
Over twenty of our students were involved across both of this week’s events, taking charge of officiating, scoring and supporting and encouraging the students who were taking part. Well done to: Charlotte Booth, Alice Nutt, Chloe Thomas, Annie Machin, Pavneet Khangura, Tia Norton, Anais Cleaver, Maddie Farmer, Hannah Watson, Faith Tooze, Sophie Shergill, Miya Sohal, Jess Komarasinha, Georgia Lawson-Usherwood, Roma Mann, Maddie Smith, Grace Pakathi, Gabriel Ball, Jamie Curtlin, Matt Ashbourne, Isabell Speller, Ellie Colchester, Oli Brind and Sophia Morrow.
Thank you for your continued support.
