A reminder of the government guidance around testing for Covid-19.

It’s vitally important that anyone with coronavirus symptoms has a test as soon as they develop symptoms. At the same time, there is a need to avoid a huge increase in demand for unnecessary tests from people without coronavirus symptoms.

Please only get tested if you develop one or more of the following symptoms:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • the loss or change of your sense of taste or smell

Or you are recommended to get tested by your GP or another a healthcare provider.

If someone in your household develops coronavirus symptoms and has a test, there’s no need for the rest of your household to also have a test, unless they are also symptomatic.

If your child feels unwell, for example with a sore throat, stomach upset or a headache, they don’t need to book a test. You should treat these illnesses as you normally would.

If someone in your household develops coronavirus symptoms you should all quarantine at home until you get a negative test result. During this time, the children in the household should not attend school.
