Congratulations to the Myton team who won the district round in the prestigious Youth Speaks debating competition on Thursday 7 February at Northgate Methodist Church.
All three Myton teams performed brilliantly. The intermediate team spoke about plastic in the ocean, one senior team spoke about labels and what it’s like to be a teenager with cerebral palsy, and the other senior team spoke about superheroes. The intermediate team (coached by Mrs Fearn) finished as runners up and Senior team S (coached by Mrs Heggs) were victorious and will be in the next round on Saturday 9 March.
The teams were:
- Sam Lubrano, Charlie Gutteridge and Emma Jakeman (senior team S)
- Thomas White, Ellen Jardine and Abbie Thacker (senior team T)
- Ella Devine, Rebecca Smith and Finley Croyden (intermediate team)
Mrs Heggs praised the students: “They are a credit to Myton School and should all be incredibly proud of the work, time and enthusiasm they put into the competition. It was also great to see friends and family supporting in the audience.”
