KEY STAGE 4

During the course you will study:

  • how films are constructed
  • how films are organised
  • how films can be used
  • how audiences make sense of film
  • key elements of film form
  • contexts of film

Films you will learn how to ‘read’ may include: Rebel Without a Cause (1955), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
(1986), The Hurt Locker (2008), Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015), Submarine (2010), District 9 (2009), Spirited Away (2001) as well as some others.

70% of your final grade will be TWO examinations, which will include extended writing.

  • Paper 1 – is based on US film and key developments in film.
  • Paper 2 – will explore global film, narrative, representation and film style.

The final 30% of the grade is made up of non-exam assessment (NEA), which is typically a genre-based film extract with a detailed evaluation.
