Key Stage 3

Year 7

Year 7 students currently study Drama on a carousel system, meaning that they have two intensive periods of the subject in their first year. This rotates with Art and Music. They look at a range of styles and genres of Drama. They work on scripted projects and devised schemes of learning. Students are encouraged to join our extra-curricular provision, WINGS, where they can get involved in performing during the summer term.

Year 8

In Year 8 students have a lesson once a week for the whole year. They also look at a range of styles and genres of Drama. They work on scripted projects and devised schemes of learning. Students are encouraged to join our extra-curricular provision, WINGS, where they can get involved in performing during the summer term.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4 Drama is a popular option choice at GCSE. We follow the AQA syllabus which gives the students an opportunity to perform extracts from published scripts. We are proud to use challenging texts that encourage the students to become emotionally mature. We also deliver a devised unit where the students create their own work based on a given stimulus. The written exam allows for a theatre trip which is then used to write a live performance review and we also study one of the set texts which is then used to answer some extended writing questions.

Students are invited to take part in the following activities:

  • Whole school musical
  • Whole school play
  • Trip to New York City
  • Festival of the Arts
  • Christmas & summer concerts

POST 16

At Key Stage 5 we study EDEXCEL Drama and Theatre Studies A level. The course allows students to study a set text to answer a written exam question and see a live performance which they evaluate in the same exam. They also do a group performance and either a monologue or duologue with supporting written coursework document. Finally they create a devised piece that also has accompanying written coursework.
