An enterprising group of Year 12s used one of the recent staff training days to raise funds for a good cause by walking 100,000 steps each!
Charlotte, Georgia, Nathan and Onna braved driving wind and rain to cover a 48 mile route in aid of Evelyn’s Gift on Friday 30 September. They raised a staggering £715 in sponsorship!
Starting at 4.45am it took the group 18 and a half hours before everyone made it back to their respective homes in Warwick and Leamington just before midnight.
Charlotte, who has a personal interest in the charity which promotes and delivers CPR training and ‘carries out little acts of kindness,’ mooted the idea with her friends, and Nathan planned the route. From the Woodloes in Warwick with rucksacks full of drinks and snacks, the group walked to Kenilworth, past Warwick University to Stoneleigh and then in the direction of Ryton on Dunsmore. There were stops at village shops throughout the journey which included Weston under Whetherley, Cubbington and Newbold before trekking to Sydenham and Whitnash. From a dark, windy Warwick town centre on Friday evening they headed back to lifts in the Woodloes… and hot baths and showers.
Observations from the four along the route:
- “A kind builder passing us found out what we were doing and gave us £5 in cash towards our efforts!”
- “One of our mums dropped off a McDonalds for us all. We needed it!”
- “Drivers took pity on us in the rain and offered lifts but we said no thanks!”
- “We came across lots of sheep and cattle as we walked across fields which was a little unnerving at times!”
Well done Charlotte, Georgia, Nathan and Onna who are already planning a summer version of the walk for the same charity. Watch this space for more details.
