Year 12 and 13 Physics students have returned from a Science trip to Switzerland where one of the activities was visiting the CERN Nuclear and Particle Physics Research Centre in Geneva.
Staff and students flew to Cointrin Airport and stayed in a hotel on the outskirts of the city for the duration of the four day trip. Trams and buses were used to visit:
- Geneva Observatory
- Verbois Hydroelectric Dam and Solar Farm
- Museum of the History of Science
- Natural History Museum (Geneva)
Lead teacher, Mr Benjamin, said the trip was a real success with children divided between their favourite activities – the Observatory and CERN.
Teaching staff were pleased to receive excellent feedback from the PhD students showing the group around the Observatory – they commented that Myton students had conducted themselves impeccably and were “always in the right place at the right time”.
Ever changing Covid requirements from the UK and Swiss governments, particularly during December and January when the Swiss were not prepared to allow the group into the country, meant planning beforehand was challenging!
This is the second time the Science Department has run the trip – the last visit was two years ago. The plan is to organise another one in a couple of years’ time.
