At the start of this half term, our school librarians turned the tables on Year 7 students. Rather than ask the librarians for book recommendations, students had to recommend their favourite book to Mrs Thompson and Mrs Drage and persuade them to read it.
The recommendations were so convincing and so varied that it’s taken some time for them to work their way through them all.
Mrs Thompson said: “Thank you to all the Year 7s who took part. We really enjoyed getting to know books and authors we hadn’t read before and you certainly challenged us to read new genres and find new favourites. If anyone is looking for books to read over the summer, we’d recommend you give these a try.”
The students who recommended the librarians’ new favourite books are Freya B and Finn W (who both win an Amazon voucher), and Zena H-T and Naveen S (who both win a Terry’s Chocolate Orange).
The winning books are:
- Wonder by R J Palacio
- The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q Rauf
And the runner–up books are:
- A Pinch of Magic by Michelle Harrison
- Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo
