This year, we have around eight students in Year 13 who are hoping to go into law. Today we’re sharing what two of them – Kathryn J and Isabelle H – are planning to do when they leave Myton at the end of this year.
Kathryn is hoping to study Law at Lancaster University in the autumn.
She says: “I chose law because I wanted to pursue a challenging and interesting career where each day is different and law provides me with many opportunities to work in this kind of environment. I’m especially interested in human rights and international law and I am contemplating doing a masters in that subject. I shall be completing a year abroad in my third year to learn about international law in Australia and hope to work for the UN in the future.”
Isabelle has offers from the University of Birmingham and the University of Surrey to study International Law. She has also reached the final stage of an application process for a degree apprenticeship.
She says: “I have chosen to do law, as it fascinates me; the world is vibrant with diversity compared to my sheltered upbringing. During the summer last year, I completed a course with Stanford University on International Women’s Health and Human Rights. The course provided me with an insight into widespread international issues, which are often not in the mainstream media. Different laws are either not in place or not being enforced, eg the governing body has a lack of economic support to put in place and enforce the laws.”
Isabelle’s A level subjects have also led to her interest in law. For example, she has studied eyewitness testimony in Psychology and moral actions as part of the Ethics module in RE.
We’ll be following the careers of Kathryn, Isabelle and the rest of our future lawyers with great interest.
