Please could you ask your child to complete this Travel to school survey (or you could complete it on their behalf).
You might have heard of a local group called Clean Air Warwick. Mr Perry is a member of the group which is led by our local district councillor, Jacqui Grey. The group’s agenda is to reduce traffic along Myton Road and in the surrounding community by increasing the numbers of local people walking or cycling.
At Myton School, we would like to see all students who live within 2 miles actively travelling to school, in other words walking or cycling but we are aware there are barriers. Some are community barriers such as lack of cycle paths, distance, crowds, or safety. Other barriers may be related to facilities within school. However, there is an opportunity now to take these barriers down if we work together.
A new spine road is being built that runs close to the back of our school site. The local plan shows a new community athletics track and Leamington Football Club’s new stadium being built adjacent to our back fence. The new road is planned to have far better cycle paths and we’d like to negotiate a pedestrian/cycle access at the rear of the school. This would enable students to walk or cycle from the new road, past the new sports facilities and into the back of our site, cutting the distance from Leamington to school, making the routes safer, and easing the traffic and pollution along Myton Road.
In order to add weight to our negotiation, we are asking all students (or parents on their behalf) to fill in this Travel to school survey. It should only take 5 minutes to complete. If we can improve local transport routes and provide better facilities on site, I like to think nearly all our students would actively travel to school. Your opinion on what must be improved both on site and locally is vital in this endeavour so please take a few minutes to complete the survey and help us improve the travelling to and from school, ease traffic locally and ensure our kids breathe cleaner air.
