This week, we’re sharing the post-Myton plans of Abby J and Ani D in Year 13, two of our students who are hoping to go into nursing when they leave Myton at the end of this year.
Abby is planning to study Adult Nursing at either the University of Leeds or the University of Manchester. She says: “I’ve always been drawn to nursing and the idea of helping people and, being a bit of a clumsy person, I have been to A&E a couple of times for stitches and the like. Most recently I went for stitches in my ankle and spent the whole 15 minutes asking the nurse questions!”
Over the past few months, Abby has been volunteering for the Covid Vaccination Programme, booking in patients and inputting data during the clinic. This has made her even more excited to go into the nursing pathway as she has had the chance to interact with so many patients and see first-hand people’s gratitude for the NHS.
Once she’s qualified, Abby hopes to work as an advanced nurse practitioner and she’s also interested in working overseas.
Ani has applied to Coventry University, where she hopes to do Mental Health Nursing. She has been interested in pursuing nursing for a long time and says: “I’ve always felt that I have a great ability to care for others, and because I am young carer, I have plenty of experience of caring for another person. I am specifically interested in counselling younger individuals, as I am someone who has struggled in the past with mental health. I felt that I needed someone to understand and support me through that time, so I would like to become the person that I needed when I struggled with my own mental health.”
Ani aspires to encourage and support younger people like herself in order to benefit their self-esteem and confidence.
It’s an understatement to say we wish Abby and Ani both the best of luck!
