Young scholars go to lunch
Two Year 13s joined other Sixth Form students from the area at the Rotary Club of Warwick’s Annual Scholars’ Lunch this week.
The group, including Head of Senate, Alex; Julia; and Myton’s Head of Sixth Form Ms Stevens, were welcomed by Rotarians who explained the origins of the organisation which offers a readymade friendship network in every town and city. They explained how the Rotary fundraises – about its global campaign to eradicate polio; how it sends Shelterboxes to disaster areas; and the provision of toilets for a school in Bo in Sierra Leone. They also talked about Warwick Rotary’s charitable support locally – for a youth speaking competition; Midsummer Concert; the 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts; and help for a disabled child’s study.
Everyone listened to an interesting presentation on the range of local charities offering students support to help them access training and grants. Recently the club provided travel scholarships to two students for their gap years – one is teaching in Africa and another obtaining experience prior to study at university.
The students responded by introducing themselves and talking about their aspirations. President Keith Talbot thanked everyone for taking time out from study and wished them every success for the future.
