Next week we’ll be bidding a fond farewell to our Facilities Manager, Peter Tunkle, who has been at Myton since 2004 and who is starting his well-earned retirement.
As well as managing the day-to-day running of the school buildings and grounds, Peter has overseen some big changes at Myton. He project managed, for example, the building of the Sports Hall, the English block and, more recently, the Inclusion Centre and LINC. He remembers arriving at Myton to take on the job and vowing to get rid of the plethora of porta cabins – or the ‘Alpine village’ as he referred to them – that were still being used as classrooms at that time. It’s fair to say the school looks very different now. And much of that is down to Peter and his team.
“We’re sad to see Peter go,” says Finance Director Jane Burrows. “Given the limited funds available to schools, Peter has managed to achieve a great deal with very little and we’ve been very lucky to have had him at Myton these past 17 years. He will be missed.”
It’s hard to imagine Myton without its Sports Hall, but these photos (taken by Peter at the time) give an insight into the scale of the construction project.
We wish him a long and happy retirement.
