Not all of our Year 13 students are planning to go on to higher education when they leave Myton this summer. This week, our post-18 spotlight is on Mia T, who is in the process of establishing her own business as a nail technician.
“I’ve wanted to work in the hair and beauty industry since I was really young,” says Mia. “But I didn’t decide exactly what I wanted to do until lockdown, which is when I started doing nails, self-taught last April. During the third lockdown, I did my training to be a qualified nail technician and have been setting up ‘Beauty by Mia’, my business and home salon ever since.”
When she leaves Myton, Mia is planning to do more courses to expand her business and the treatments she is able to offer. You can find her on Instagram @beautybymiat.
Mrs Thompson, Mia’s form tutor, said: “I am so impressed with Mia’s determination to do this. She has been incredibly resourceful and resilient to be so organised and driven despite the restrictions and difficulties of lockdown.”
