On Wednesday 4 December, 44 of our Year 11 and 12 media studies students visited MediaCity in Salford, home of the BBC and ITV studios.
Students toured the radio and TV studios, including BBC Breakfast, Match of the Day and the weather forecast. Some students had a go at using an autocue to read the news and weather. They also had a question and answer session with industry insiders.
Unsurprisingly, the trip proved to be a big hit with students and several of them have been inspired to explore media as a future career. Aimee said, “It was fascinating to learn how things work in a TV studio,” while Tom and Sam said, “It gave us an insight into a mass media corporation and how much work and expense it all is compared to what we see at home.” Finton said he was ‘inspired’ by the tour and Jack said, “It was a truly great experience.”
Ms Hotten, Mr Lowe and Oliver bumped into Coronation Street actor Daniel Brocklebank, who is from Leamington Spa and was happy to oblige with a selfie. Ms Hotten said, “The media and film students were a real credit to Myton. We loved exploring MediaCity and got a real insight into some fascinating areas of TV and radio.”
