Last Thursday, a group of students watched a live orchestra rehearsal.
The Year 8-12 children were invited by the Orchestra of the Swan to join Warwick School students at Warwick Hall on the Myton Road. It involved watching the musicians perfect a professional performance. Lead violinist Thom Gould spoke to the children about his performing career in both the classical and jazz sectors, answering some really intelligent questions from the students about the effect of Covid on his work; how royalties are awarded for session work; and the effects of directing an orchestra from the violin rather than using a conductor.
Before the evening’s concert performance, which included works by Beethoven (Symphony no. 6) and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, the children tucked into pizza, chips and salad, kindly provided by the hosts.
Head of Music, Ms Harrisson, said Myton students were a credit to our school. Thanks to the Orchestra of the Swan and Warwick School for organising a fantastic evening.
