Our Year 12 and 13 English and Politics students visited the University of Coventry last week for a George Orwell inspired political writing conference. They had the honour of speaking to George Orwell’s son and heard that Orwell’s views on the power of words, to change the world, are still relevant today. They all took part in writing workshops led by industry experts and professionals in the fields of broadcast journalism, short story writing and other types of political writing.
Three of our students, Isabel, Luca and Charlotte, were chosen to present their work to the whole conference, including Orwell’s son, several University lecturers and local government representatives. Everyone spoke passionately and represented themselves fantastically; their work was highly praised by the panel of experts. We hope that our students will enter this year’s Orwell Youth Prize, which is open to anyone in Years 8 to 13. More details can be found here.
