Dear Parents and Carers
Christmas Jumper Day today. I’ve not been out to fully assess the quality of the jumpers just yet but will certainly make a point of that later today (though any jumper depicting a snow man with a protruding carrot nose leaves me uncomfortable for reasons I’ve yet to fathom).
Apart from that, I pass this week’s newsletter to Mr Simon Jones who is leaving us at Christmas. Many of you will know and may have been taught by Mr Jones. He has certainly been a Myton loyalist having arrived here as a new teacher around the 1870s and stuck with us ever since. In that time as a teacher, Head of Department, Senior Leader and Deputy Head, Simon has proven countless times just how important he is to the school. I could relay any number of tales about Simon but I will limit it to just these two things. Simon is unflappable in a crisis (of which we have had quite a lot over the last few years) and demonstrated this by leading the school as we went into the first lockdown and my family were struck with serious illness. This is just one of so many examples of his unnerving ability to think calmly under pressure and get a job done. Secondly, he is patient. As a Deputy Head he has more than his fair share of angry, naughty kids, irate parents and upset staff to deal with. Without exception he is empathetic and the child/parent/member of staff leaves feeling better. He has to do all this and then has to put up with me each day – the patience of a saint and I’m going to miss him.
Simon leaves with our best wishes and the rest of this Weekly News…….
Best wishes
Andy Perry
