Dear Parents and Carers
On Wednesday we hosted the Year 6s destined for Myton in September. 284 in this new year group, all excited and a bit nervous about their first experience of Myton School but by the end of the day all looking forward to arriving here in a few months. I have a son in Year 6 and like him, they are well ready for this next step, they certainly got stuck into the classes and activities on Wednesday and gave a very good first impression. It’s vital they keep this determination, as we told them, if they bring ambition we can provide never ending opportunities for them to develop new skills and enjoy new experiences.
When I talk to the Year 6s it always strikes me that we could have any number of future stars in all possible fields sat with us, that they are in a room with people they have never met but some of whom will become their life-long friends. However, as we also told them, opportunities must be taken. It’s no good waiting for them to land in your lap and assume life will come easily – anything in life worth having requires effort so let’s start with that mindset.
It was great to see all those Year 6s ready to get stuck into secondary school and the following day (last night), to demonstrate the other end of the equation, it was the Year 13 Prom. Absolutely stunning evening in a lovely venue, complemented by great weather. I’m always jealous of Sixth Formers and that period of their life. To see them, all so young and beautiful, celebrating the end of school together and talking about what is coming next is humbling. I remember their induction day very clearly and then in what seems a blink of an eye they are all grown up, ready to go off on their adventures, dancing the night away in a fog of perfume, aftershave and Jager Bombs – oh to be 18 again!
So a week which included both ends of secondary school, welcome to all our new intake and a very fond farewell to our departing Year 13s and as promised here they are………
With best wishes
