Dear Parents and Carers
There’s some speculation in the press that Monday 17 May will mark a change in the mask rule in school. As ever, these rules generate a mixed response, but if the mask rule in school is relaxed on that date, then it has to be seen as a positive sign that the end of the restrictions of the last 15 months is approaching.
We are certainly planning for this, and whilst we haven’t signed off all our adjustments yet, I can signpost you to two dates where changes will be introduced. First will be Monday 7 June, the first day back after half term. Year 11 and Year 13 will be largely on remote transition learning by then, which allows us to look at moving year groups into new zones. It would certainly help the Year 10s to move to the Year 11 zone and grasp that they are now, to all intents and purposes, in their final year. It may also provide an opportunity to move Year 8s out of the science block which they tell me they would really like. We will write to you with details of all the adjustments planned for Monday 7 June very soon.
The second date to look out for is the start of the new school year in September. We are hoping that by then we can operate free of Covid restrictions, stop this top-down style of leadership and launch all our new strategic plans. However, as mentioned several times before, we are not going to rush to give up all the changes we have made. Some have proved to have many positive consequences for our students. On Tuesday, the leadership team will finalise a document which will go to all Myton staff with recommendations on what to keep, what to abandon and what to adjust. At this point they are recommendations and this is a consultation, but we will make our decisions soon and let you know our plans.
Whatever we keep, abandon or adjust, it is nice to have the choice at last.
With best wishes
Andy Perry – Head Teacher
