Dear Parents and Carers
Today we have had a tutor hour to remind all students of the importance of the new measures in school and to introduce some adjustments for certain year groups. The key reminders are to remain in the zones and bubbles at all times and to wear face masks around the corridors when moving to and from classes. These are both vital measures and will help students protect themselves and each other. These measures are made more important when considering the lack of capacity locally for testing and the turnaround time for test results.
Our changes are to the Year 11 breaks and the Year 8 zone. Year 11s will move from the first break slots (10.00am and 12.30pm) to the last (11.00am and 1.30pm). Lessons will be the same and in the same order but, by adjusting the break times, we reduce learning time after lunch. We had noticed that the Year 11s were less productive during period 5 and when asked, students and staff all wanted this change. The need for staggered breaks will always mean some year groups have to have more lessons after lunch but Year 11 must be a priority so we are happy to make this change.
For Year 8, we are changing their zone from upstairs to downstairs in the science block. This improves their access to toilets and allows us to conduct more chemistry experiments as these facilities are all upstairs.
The changes and reminders have all been explained in today’s tutor hour, but please take a moment to remind your child of the importance of the bubbles and zones and that wearing a mask helps to protect themselves and each other.
Thank you and best wishes
